Vesperus was one of the Asteri who conquered the Fae Homeworld.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Vesperus was one of the Asteri that left their failing homeworld in search of another. They soon found one and inhabited it, starting to overpower the population and installing themselves as masters. Vesperus herself chose a small island to rule over. One of her subjects was Theia, whom she raised from childhood on, who later stole the Dread Trove from the Asteri and helped rid her world of them. Vesperus wasn't killed during this rebellion. Instead she was tricked into a sarcophagus made of clear quartz in a chamber underneath her own palace, which would then become her prison. She was confined, yet lived on, not able to breathe, eat, or drink, but left in a half-slumber, starving.
House of Flame and Shadow[]
She remained in this state for fifteen thousand years, until she was freed by Bryce Quinlan. Vesperus tried to kill her by replenishing her own light, but ended up being beheaded by Nesta Archeron before she could do so. With her, the last Asteri left in this particular world died.
Personality[]

Physical Description[]
Vesperus' last vessel had black hair, which fell onto the floor, and extremely pale skin that glowed like a full moon. Her lips were an unnatural vibrant red and her eyes were a crushing blue that glowed.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Firstlight and Secondlight Manipulation: Like all the Asteri, Vesperus could manipulate the power of firstlight and secondlight to achieve God-like feats.
- Energy Absorption: Like all the Asteri, Vesperus consumed firstlight and secondlight to increase her power to that of a god. However, it was alluded to that this power was not infinite and without regular consumption, her powers would have weakened over time.
- Body Jumping: Like all the Asteri, Vesperus could transfer her own essence into the body of others. But due to the nature of her power, the host body would eventually waste away from the toll.
Trivia[]
- The meaning of the Latin word vesperus is "evening."[1]
- When Bryce had unwittingly awakened Vesperus, she asked if she was related to Hesperus in some way, referring to Hesperus by her title as the Evening Star, and Vesperus reacted angerly and claimed that she was the Evening Star instead. This might hint to a possibly strained relationship with her fellow Asteri.[2]
