House of Earth and Blood[]
Maximus met with Bryce Quinlan at the White Raven to seal the deal for a five-thousand-year-old onyx bust of a long-dead vampyr lord. The deal had been a triumph for Bryce after weeks of sending out feelers to potential buyers, taunting them with the chance to buy a rare artifact before any of their rivals. She’d had her eye on Maximus, and during their endless phone calls and messages, she’d played him well, drawing upon his hatred for other vampyr lords, his fragile ego, and his unbearable arrogance.
Afterwards, Maximus tried to seduce Bryce into staying with him, causing her to feel rather uncomfortable. Right when she was about to flee, her brother Ruhn Danaan stepped in and pushes Maximus to leave. Two hours later, Maximus is killed in the same way as Danika Fendyr and the Pack of Devils on the outskirts of the Meat Market.
When Micah Domitus commandered Bryce into investigating Danika's murder, he told her that Maximus and Danika were friends. Bryce automatically did not believe him and was able to discover that Maximus had a girlfriend, a draki who works at a nail salon in the Old Square. Bryce was able to gather from the girlfriend that Maximus and Danika were definitely not friends.
Eventually, Bryce and Hunt Athalar discover that Maximus was killed after being injected with Synth by Micah, so he would rip himself apart due to a side-effect of the Synth. Maximus was chosen as a target to give an excuse to Micah so he could come to Bryce to bring her into the whole investigation.
