Malakim, also known as angels, are a species of Vanir belonging to the House of Sky and Breath. The singular of Malakim is Malakh.

History[]

The Malakim were created by the Asteri themselves. The most powerful of the Malakim are the Archangels, who are made governors of areas in Midgard. There are currently ten Archangels who rule the various territories of the Republic. The Archangels answer only to the Asteri.

The Malakim were created to be perfect soldiers and loyal servants for the Asteri. Angels were gifted with incredible amounts of power. For the most part, they have relished their role in the world. They have no choice but to be in a legion. Hunt says that if he wasn't officially branded as a slave, he would still essentially be one anyway. They have no real say in their lives, even when it comes to who they are intimate with. The Asteri determine when they will produce children and who they will have them with.

The Malakim are the most respected and feared of all the species in Midgard, beneath the Asteri. According to Isaiah and Hunt, most of the Archangels scheme and play tricks and games. The angels are the most respected and feared of all species on Midgard after the Asteri.

Asterian Guard[]

The Asterian Guard is made up of the elite, highborn angels who have been bred by the Asteri for obedience and service. They are identifiable by their glowing white wings. Their uniforms have white and gold regalia and golden helmets with visors that cover the face. They carry spears. The Asterian Guard serves as the Asteri's elite private legion.

Physical Description[]

The most prominent feature of the Malakim are their feathered wings. Their wings can be a range of different colors and shades; usually black, gray, or white. Only Malakim with the whitest wings, devoid of any color, are chosen to be a part of the Asterian Guard.

Known Malakin[]

Powers & Abilities[]

Like all the Vanir, Malakim naturally possess enhanced strength, speed, and regenerative abilities that make them far stronger than humans. But as a result of being created by the Asteri themselves, Malakim are also physically much stronger than other Vanir, even capable of contending with Fae, and are arguably one of the strongest races on Midgard. Through their wings, they are able to fly at high speeds, although not as quick as aerial vehicles such as helicopters and jets. Their wings also provide some protection from attacks.

Malakim, ordinary or Archangel, also possess magic that is related to the sky such as summoning rain, storms, and tornados, that is described as "hideous" and "destructive." For instance Sandriel and Isaiah Tiberian are able to control and summon wind. Archangels like Micah Domitus could summon more destructive winds capable of even burning their victims, while Malakim such as Hunt possess the power to harness lightning, an ability that even other angels consider as unheard of.

Bryce Quinlan notes that a powerful ordinary angel's power might level a building, while an Archangel's power could destroy an entire metropolis. Though the source of the strength difference between angels and Archangels is currently unknown, there are theories that could pertain to the differences, such as the careful breeding orders of Asteri or the extra power emerging in different bloodlines.

Upon making the Drop, Malakim have the potential to live somewhere between five centuries to a thousand years. The oldest angels live to be nearly eight hundred.

Trivia[]

  • It is rare for both siblings to bear an Archangel's title and power. Malakim believed it to be a good omen until Shahar and her forces rebelled against them.
  • Archangels are referred to as "Your Grace."[1]
  • When an angel flares their wings slightly, it is their usual stance when preparing for a physical fight.[2]
