Luna's Temple is a building devoted to the moon goddess Luna.
General Information[]
The temple is also referred to as Lunathion's temple as Luna is the city's patron goddess. It is located three blocks north of the Heart Gate, the center of the Old Square. The temple was the first thing built upon the city's founding five hundred years ago.
Luna's Temple is across the street from the Oracle's Park. It is made of white stone. It's one of the few places in the city without security cameras. A sprawling villa for the acolytes and priestesses lays behind the temple itself. Outside the entry doors is a courtyard lined with cypress trees, the courtyard itself is modeled after the one in the Eternal City.[1] Entry pillars are on either side of the steps leading into the temple. The inner sanctum, accessible through towering bronze doors, is a long chamber with a lofty ceiling and marble pillars. Firstlight shimmers from a row of braziers. A small door leads to the chamber where the stag sacrifices are prepared to be burned in Luna's honor.
The temple's statue of Luna was crafted from a single block of marble hewn from the famed Caliprian Quarries by the Melanthos River north of the city. The thirty-foot-high statue of Luna seated on a carved golden throne is located at the back of the inner sanctum. The goddess is lovingly rendered in shimmering moonstone. A silver tiara of a full moon held by two crescent moons graces her upswept curling hair. At her sandaled feet are twin wolves with a bowl of incense in between them. Across the back of throne is a bow of solid gold and a quiver full of silver arrows with diamond tips. They were donated by Archangel Micah Domitus.[1] The pleats of Luna’s thigh-length robe drape across her lap, veiling the slim fingers resting there. Her other hand held Luna's Horn, an ancient Fae relic, that was stolen during a power outage in 15.033 V.E.
Trivia[]
- The acolyte, who was on duty the night the Horn was stolen from the temple, was found dead near the Old Square.[2]
