Lorin[1] is Ruhn Danaan's mother. She was chosen for planned breeding to continue the royal bloodline for the Autumn King, Einar Danaan.
Biography[]
Lorin is the daughter of a prominent noble house that had defected from Avallen's court.[2] Lorin's mother was a Donnall. When the Autumn King decided after a few centuries of ruling that he wanted an heir, Lorin was selected for one purpose, breeding. Despite not having been given a choice in the matter, Lorin says she did her duty gladly, grateful for the eternal privilege it offered.
Though she was chosen only to sire the King's heir she developed feelings for him that he was unable to reciprocate. After she became pregnant with Ruhn. Einar Danaan kept her in a villa where she has been living ever since. Her son visits her once a week to check on her and the house. It is down the block from Ruhn's villa. Lorin is not queen, or a consort or mate.
Personality[]
Lorin has obeyed everyone her entire life. She tells Ruhn she was glad to do her duty to continue the royal line and is grateful for the eternal privilege it offers. She is so meek and unassertive to an almost defenseless degree she doesn't want to inconvenience anyone when she struggles with something. She won't even try to call a repairman or workers to fix her home's appliances. Lorin still holds an unrequited love for Einar.
Lorin is sweet and kind. Ruhn has never heard her speak one ill word about the Autumn King or the life she's been conscripted to. She cares deeply for her son. She is gentle and loving. She isn't even jealous of Ember Quinlan. There had been so many females before and after Ember, yet none of them had been formally chosen, as she was, to continue the royal bloodline. The few times she has met Bryce, Lorin was kind, even doting. Lorin has talked about Bryce with an open fondness and love. Lorin seems completely content with her position in life. Ruhn can't decide if he admires his mother for never questioning the gilded cage she lives in, but he does feel a fierce pride in taking after her bloodline.
Physical Description[]
Lorin is beautiful, like all the Fae, but with a gentleness to her face. Her deep blue eyes are the same color as Ruhn's and hold a sadness in them. Lorin has a beautiful, delicate face and silken black hair. Despite being two hundred years older than Ruhn, they look the same age. She's always perfectly put together, always pristine, and ready for a visit that will never happen.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Fae Physiology: As one of the Fae, Lorin has enhanced senses and physical abilities, including a sense of smell much stronger than that of humans. She also heals from injuries much faster than a human.
- Telepathy: Due to her heritage, Lorin should be a telepath, meaning she can communicate with people via their minds, also called mind-speaking. However, she can't read their thoughts.
- Avallen Magic: Also due to her heritage, Lorin should have the ability to manipulate shadows. This includes summoning and walking through them, and cloaking herself and others in darkness.
- Immortality: Since she has made the Drop, Lorin is immortal which not only grants her a slowed and expanded lifespan but allows her to survive injuries that not even her accelerated healing would be able to regenerate from.
