Hilde was a Witch who defected from the House of Earth and Blood and served the Asteri instead.

Biography[]

Ealy Life[]

Not much is known about Hilde. When younger, she flew in Hecuba Enador's unit when both were in their fighting days. She defected from the House of Earth and Blood and swore allegiance to the House of Flame and Shadow because of Hecuba. According to Hilde, Hecuba was weak and spineless and had no taste for punishment.[1] Later, she became an Imperial Hag under the employ of the Asteri and did their biddings. Hilde was also responsible for putting the power-dampening "halo" tattoos on the Asteri's enemies, like Hunt Athalar and the Sprite Queen Irithys.

House of Flame and Shadow[]

She was framed by Lidia Cervos and the Dreadwolves for having been in possession of a Comm-Crystal, which were used by Ophion rebels and which Lidia had slipped into Hilde's pocket a few days earlier. She was thrown into the dungeons of the Crystal Palace, where she was then interrogated by Lidia. The latter had Irithys with her and, testing Irithys, commanded her to burn Hilde, which she refused.

Even though Lidia left Hilde in her cell, she later struck a bargain with her for the witch's freedom. She was supposed to do one favor for Lidia when the time came and then could walk free. Lidia used that favor to have Hilde remove the tattoo from Irithys' neck. When freed from her gorsian shackles, Hilde sought to attack Lidia, but was stopped when the latter pulled a gun on her. She had no other way than to remove Irithys' tattoo, only after Lidia promised not to kill her, but was instead killed by Irithys' fire, as she now knew of Lidia's treason against the Asteri.[2]

Physical Description[]

Hilde had baleful, yellow-tinged eyes and thinning white hair, which glimmered like strands of wispy moonlight. She was a wretched, twisted creature, but one of hidden beauty. Before her death, she wore the imperial uniform, with the crest of the Republic fraying over her sagging breasts. The gums of her teeth were blackened.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Flight: Like other Witches, Hilde could fly using her broomstick.
  • Enchantments: Hilde was able to cast various enchantments. An example are the "halo" tattoos she placed on the Asteri's prisoners to bind their powers.
  • Immortality: Having made the Drop, Hilde was immortal which not only granted her a slowed and expanded lifespan but allowed her to survive injuries that not even her accelerated healing would be able to regenerate from.
